Physical Education
At Mount Nod Primary School, physical education is an integral part of our curriculum. We strive to create a culture that inspires an active generation to enjoy PE, encourage each other and achieve. In PE we provide a safe and supportive environment for children to flourish in a range of different physical activities which is essential in supporting their physical, emotional, spiritual, social and moral development. Our curriculum aims to improve the well-being and fitness of all children, not only through the sporting skills taught, but through the underpinning values and disciplines PE promotes.
"Intelligence and skill can only function at the peak of their capacity when the body is healthy and strong. " - John F.Kennedy
All children at Mount Nod are provided with the necessary skills and opportunities to achieve their personal best. Our pupils are happy and physically active and this has a positive impact on their classroom learning. Children understand how to lead a healthy lifestyle and understand the importance of regular exercise.
Children are able to represent the school in local sporting events. Alongside this we share sporting achievements in and out of school in our assemblies.
Swimming is an important life skill and we aspire for all children to leave primary school being able to swim at least 25 metres and have a good knowledge of water safety.
"We don't stop playing because we grow old; we grow old because we stop playing." - George Bernard Shaw
At Mount Nod we ensure that all children have access to their entitlement of Physical Education each week but they all also have the opportunity to extend this experience in extra-curricular pursuits. We do this by giving all children plenty of experiences of a broad range of sports and activities in curriculum time but also through clubs, competitions and visitors. All children are encouraged to participate in a varied range of extra-curricular activities. Clubs are offered to both KS1 and KS2 children throughout the year and Foundation stage in the Summer term.
“Sport has literally changed my life. I’m here because of sport. It has given me a lot of confidence, a lot of courage, and a lot of discipline. It’s helped me to be the person that I’ve grown to be today.” - Serena Williams
Children in Year 5 are given the opportunity to become Sports Leaders. Training for this is provided by a specialist coach. The sports leaders develop into sporting role models for the younger children, assisting with and organising games at dinner time.
