Science
As scientists at Mount Nod we aim to learn about the world around us in an engaging, exciting and inclusive way – understanding how science has changed our lives and will continue to do so in the future!
"Every brilliant experiment, like every great work of art, starts with an act of imagination.” – Jonah Lehrer
We aim to develop children’s scientific knowledge and understanding of biology, chemistry and physics through engaging topics, encouraging the children to be curious and inquisitive and that ‘mistakes’/taking risks in science often lead to the most exciting discoveries!
“Nothing in life is to be feared, it is only to be understood. Now is the time to understand more, so that we may fear less.” – Marie Curie
Through following the Chris Quigley milestones, each year group follows a two year cycle, where children experience hands-on investigations and learn firsthand how to question, predict, investigate and draw conclusions about their key questions. Even our EYFS stage enjoy exploring the world around them through fun, scientific investigations and experiences to guide them to make sense of their physical world and community.
“Science knows no country, because knowledge belongs to humanity, and is the torch which illuminates the world.” – Louis Pasteur
Cross curricular links form an important part of our curriculum, allowing the children to draw on experience and knowledge to gain a bigger picture of their ever-evolving world and how their effects upon it can create change.
